Magnolia salicifolia

Magnolia species, native to Japan (Honshu, Shikoshu, Kyushu). Small tree with silvery or brownish grey bark, lanceolate willow-like leaves, and white flowers (12-18cm diameter) with anise scent. Damaged twigs and crushed leaves also have strong pleasant scent. 
Blooms very early in season. Hardy.


Botanical name: Magnolia salicifolia.
Other names: willow-leafed magnolia, anise magnolia.
Habit: small to mid-sized tree, occasionally large shrub.
Height: 5-7m.
HardinessUSDA zone 5a.
Flowering time: March - April.
