Reliable old variety, a small tree producing fragrant, frost-resistant, pure white flowers 10-15 cm in diameter early in the season. Very floriferous, flowers from a young age. Suitable for small gardens.
Award of Garden Merrit (1993)
Hybridized by L.K.Sax in Arnold Arboretum, USA (1939).

Botanical name: Magnolia x loebneri "Merrill".
Other names: Magnolia "Dr. Merrill", "Doctor Merrill".
Parentage: M.stellata x M.kobus.
Habit: rounded tree, often multistemmed.
Height: 5-7m.
Hardiness: USDA zone 4b.

Magnolia "Chyverton Red"

Hardy cultivar of Magnolia dawsoniana with large (20-25 cm across), fragrant, crimson colored flowers. The flower color is  determined by temperature: it is deep crimson in cool summers, in warmer it is pale crimson. Leaves are dark green and smooth with prominent veins and lighter undersides.

Botanical name: Magnolia dawsoniana "Chyverton Red".
Parentage: unknown; mother tree grows in Chyverton Gardens (Cornwall, Great Britain)..
Habit: widely spreading tree.
Height: 8-10m.
Hardiness: USDA zone 7b.
Flowering time: March - April.

Magnolia "Pinkie"

Compact shrubby magnolia, one of so called "Eight little girls". Produces nice cup-shaped flowers 12-18 cm in diameter, with 8-10 broad tepals, purplish pink outside and almost white inside. 
Bred and selected by Dudley & Kosar in US National Arboretum, Washington DC, USA,1956.

Botanical name: Magnolia x "Pinkie".
Parentage: M. liliiflora "Reflorescens" x M. stellata "Rosea".
Habit: shrub.
Height: 3-4m.
Hardiness: USDA zone 5a.
Flowering time: April - May.

Magnolia "Forrest's Pink"

A pink form of Magnolia denudata (probably a natural hybrid with Magnolia sprengeri var. diva). Produces large pink flowers with wide tepals and fruity fragrance. Performs better if spring is warm. 
Selected by Treseder's Nurseries from the original tree at Caerhays Castle which is thought to have originated from one of George Forrest's seed collections.

Botanical name: Magnolia denudata "Forrest's Pink".
Other names: Magnolia "Forrest Pink".
Parentage: a chance seedling from seeds collected by George Forrest in China.
Habit: small upright growing tree, often multistemmed.
Height: 5-6m.
Hardiness: USDA zone 6a.
Flowering time: April - May.

Magnolia maudiae

One of the hardiest Asian evergreen magnolias (formerly Michelia species), compact tree with pale gray bark, leathery foliage, and white flowers 10-15 cm across.
Floriferous, fragrant. Originates from China (Anhui, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Jiangxi, Hunan, Zhejiang).

Botanical name: Magnolia maudiae.
Other names: Michelia maudiae.
Habit: upright tree.
Height: 8-10m.
Hardiness: USDA zone 7b and warmer parts of USDA zone 7a..
Flowering time: March - April.

Magnolia "Ruth"

"Ruth" is a good try to get magnolia "Lanarth" like flowers on a more hardy tree. This hybrid produces classical large, cup-and-saucer shaped, rosy purple flowers and has a much longer flowering season than "Lanarth".
Floriferous, blooms from the young age. Bred and selected by Ian Baldick (Ramarama, Auckland region of New Zealand).

Botanical name: Magnolia x "Ruth".
Parentage: M. campbellii subsp. mollicomata "Lanarth" x M. liliiflora "Nigra".
Habit: compact tree.
Height: 5-6m.
Hardiness: USDA zone 7a.
Flowering time: April - May.

Magnolia "Pegasus"

A very early white magnolia for colder climates. Flowers open before the leaves, approximately 10 cm long, tepals suffused purplish pink outside towards the base.’
The mother tree grows in Hillier Garden (Great Britain).This hybrid was propagated for a long time under the name Magnolia cylindrica.

Botanical name: Magnolia x "Pegasus".
Parentage: M. cylindrica x M. denudata.
Habit: upright tree, often multistemmed.
Height: 6-8m.
Hardiness: USDA zone 5b and warmer parts of USDA zone 5a.
