Hardy cultivar of Magnolia dawsoniana with large (20-25 cm across), fragrant, crimson colored flowers. The flower color is determined by temperature: it is deep crimson in cool summers, in warmer it is pale crimson. Leaves are dark green and smooth with prominent veins and lighter undersides.
Botanical name: Magnolia dawsoniana "Chyverton Red".
Parentage: unknown; mother tree grows in Chyverton Gardens (Cornwall, Great Britain)..
Habit: widely spreading tree.
Height: 8-10m.
Hardiness: USDA zone 7b.
Flowering time: March - April.
