"Ruth" is a good try to get magnolia "Lanarth" like flowers on a more hardy tree. This hybrid produces classical large, cup-and-saucer shaped, rosy purple flowers and has a much longer flowering season than "Lanarth".
Floriferous, blooms from the young age. Bred and selected by Ian Baldick (Ramarama, Auckland region of New Zealand).
Botanical name: Magnolia x "Ruth".
Habit: compact tree.
Height: 5-6m.
Hardiness: USDA zone 7a.
Flowering time: April - May.
