Magnolia tripetala

Deciduous magnolia native to the eastern United States (the Appalachian Mountains, the Ozarks, and the Ouachita Mountains). Flowers: large, 15-25 cm diameter, with 6-9 white tepals and a large red style, which later develops into a decorative red fruit. The foliage is large and tropical looking.
Hardy. Tolerates some flooding (very uncomon for magnolias).

Botanical name: Magnolia tripetala.
Other names: umbrella tree, umbrella magnolia.
Habit: globular tree, often multi-stemmed.
Height: 5-6m.
Hardiness: USDA zone 4b.
Flowering time: May - June.
