A summer-flowering Magnolia species originating from to China (western Guizhou, Sichuan and northern Yunnan). Looks similar to its relative M.sieboldii but the flowers are pendulous and have purplish red stamens and the lanceolate or oblong-ovate leaves are more hairy.
Prefers semi-shady areas and cool rich soil.
Botanical name: Magnolia wilsonii.
Other names: Wilson's magnolia.
Habit: compact tree or big bush.
Height: 4-6m.
Hardiness: USDA zone 6a.
Flowering time: May.- June
