Magnolia "Red Baron"


Vigorous tree producing flowers that are smaller than "Big Dude", but with a deeper red color. Being 50% M.acuminata, this magnolia is much hardier than "Big Dude". Fragrant. Blooms late in the season. Excellent seed fertility. 
Bred and selected by Dennis Ledvina (Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA).

Botanical name: Magnolia x "Red Baron".
Parentage: M.acuminata x M."Big Dude".
Habit: upright tree.
Height: 6-8m.
Hardiness: USDA zone 5a.
Flowering time: April - May.
