Magnolia "Leonard Messel"

Photo: Magnus Manske (CC - Sharing under the Same Conditions 3.0)
One of the best magnolia varieties for colder climates. The flowers are up to 10-12cm across, and resemble those of M.stellata except in colour. They are usually a pale but rich purplish pink. The color is paler after cold winters, and deeper in warmer climates.
Exceptionally hardy, very floriferous, flowers from a young age. Flowers are possibly the most frost resistant of all magnolias.
Selected by J.Comber, Nymans about 1950.
