Magnolia liliiflora

Chinese species that is widely grown as an ornamental and used medicinally in China. Flowers appear at same time with leaves, vase-shaped, erect, slightly fragrant. Tepals are purple to purplish red outside and whitish inside. 

Botanical name: Magnolia liliiflora.
Other names: Mulan magnolia, lily magnolia, woody-orchid, M.quinquepeta, M.purpurea, M.liliflora.
Habit: mid-sized shrub.
Height: 2-3m.
Hardiness: USDA zone 6a.
Flowering time: March - April (April - May in colder climates).
