One of the best yellow hybrids, bred and selected by well known magnolia hybridizer Phil Savage (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA). The deep yellow, truly precocious flowers have 10-14 tepals and prominent red stamens. Produced in abundance, flowers resemble yellow butterflies on a tree.
Quite compact, slow to establish, suitable for a small garden.
Botanical name: Magnolia x "Butterflies".
Parentage: M. acuminata "Fertile Myrtle" x M. denudata "Sawada's Cream".
Habit: narrow, almost columnar tree when young. Broader with age.
Height: 5-7m.
Hardiness: USDA zone 4a.
Flowering time: April - May.
