A very old variety of evergreen Magnolia grandiflora, cultivated since 1817. Fragrant white flowers are typical for the species. Rusty undersides of the leaves.
Suitable for small gardens.
Botanical name: Magnolia grandiflora "Ferruginea".
Parentage: unknown; probably various clones with ferrugineous indumentum have passed under this name.
Habit: upright compact tree.
Height: 5-7m.
Hardiness: USDA zone 7a.
Flowering time: June - July.
