Medium-sized evergreen tree with pale brown or gray bark, big leathery glossy leaves and large white fragrant flowers (up to 25 or even 30 cm in diameter). Native to south-eastern part of North America and widely cultivated as an ornamental and for timber in mild climates all over the world.
