An excellent hybrid from Ian Baldick (Ramarama, Auckland region of New Zealand). The red-purple flowers are almost goblet shaped. Flowers freely from a young age. Compact, ideal for small gardens.
At first, Ian named this hybrid "Red As" but later renamed it to "Red As Red". It is a sister seedling of another beautiful hybrid "Ian's Red".
Botanical name: Magnolia x "Red As Red".
Other names: Magnolia "Red As".
Parentage: M."Pickard’s Ruby" x M."Vulcan".
Habit: small tree or large bush.
Height: 3-4m.
Flowering time: April - May.
