Large, deciduous, shrubby tree producing fragrant rose-purple flowers 20-25cm across, with long rosy stamens. Glossy green leaves are fuzzy below. It tends to be biennial flowering with heavy and light bloom years.
Botanical name: Magnolia sargentiana var. robusta "Chyverton Dark".
Other names: Magnolia sargentiana "Dark Form", "Chyverton Dark Form".
Parentage: unknown; mother tree grows in Chyverton Gardens (Cornwall, Great Britain)..
Habit: widely spreading tree.
Height: 8-10m.
Hardiness: USDA zone 7b.
Flowering time: March - April.
